Cheese Events at Nectar and Woodloch
Consider this your spring teaser! Here are two cheese events to mull over as spring presses her face against the cheese-room door. The first involves more cheese and gin. The second, a cheese spa…
Nectar: A Spirited Evening, April 16
Chef Patrick Feury of Nectar in Berwyn, PA deserves a big spring smooch from cheese and gin lovers. On Tursday, April 16, 2015, he’s presenting an evening of incredible cheese and hooch that will feature a meeting of the “makers” from PA and Vermont — yes, Jasper Hill and Caledonia Spirits will be in the house.
If you’re a cheese hound or a gin freak (or both), let’s meet in a secret booth in the back. Kidding. Let’s just all hang out with Mateo Kehler from Jasper Hill (if you don’t know who he is, beg your local cheesemonger for a taste of Harbison or Bayley Hazen). He’ll be joined by distiller Todd Hardie of Caledonia Spirits (have you had Barr Hill gin? If not, we can’t be friends.)
PA cheesemakers include Birchrun Hills, Doe Run, and Yellow Springs. You can also expect to meet several area distillers and, lo, chocolatier Christopher Curtin of Éclat. To read more, click here. To reserve a spot ($125) for the evening’s tasting, call 610.725.9000.
Woodloch Spring Cheese Tasting with Madame Fromage
Remember when I told you about the “cheese spa” workshop I hosted in the Poconos over the winter? Well, dear ones, I’m headed back up to The Lodge at Woodloch from April 30 thru May 2 for two days of sitting around in bathrobes and talking spring goat cheese.
Book a room, and prepare to nibble exquisite spring goat cheeses with seasonal pairings. On Friday (5/1), I’ll present an evening cheese board with Emilio Mignucci of Di Bruno Bros. On Saturday at 11 a.m. (5/2), you can step out of the spa and into a glorious tasting and demo of how to build a spring cheese board. In between, we can sit by the fire, stroll through the vegetable garden, wander through the woods to look at wildflowers, and dine in our slippers. If you plan to be there, please let me know!
